About the city
Living in Slidell
The City of Slidell sits just above the City of New Orleans, north of Lake Pontchartrain — a 25-minute commute to New Orleans, with Interstates I-10, I-12 and I-59 converging in the city and a quick drive to Stennis Space Center. Fishing, hunting, boating, sailing and canoeing find easy access on Lake Pontchartrain, Bayou Bonfouca and the Pearl River; the Department of Parks and Recreation maintains all 30 city parks and runs the Summer Recreation Program and youth leagues.
Between 2010 and 2020 the population grew from 27,068 to 28,781. The median property value is $167,900 and the homeownership rate is 69.7%. Property taxes inside the city limits are assessed by the St. Tammany Parish Assessor and collected by the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office.
